The Lyrical Viola - Max Mandel

17 April

The Scottish Chamber Orchestra is without a doubt one of the finest in the world and we are delighted to present a unique and exclusive series of fantastic recitals, given by brilliant soloists from this famous ensemble.

Max Mandel, viola

With piano accompaniment

Schumann: Márchenbilder

Frank Bridge (pieces for viola and piano)

Vaughan Williams: Romance

Bruch: Romanze

Feldman: The Viola in My Life

Rebecca Clarke: Viola Sonata

Capable of spinning the most beautiful romantic musical tunes, it is a rare pleasure to hear the viola as a solo instrument. Max Mandel recently joined the SCO as principal viola, and he has chosen a programme which ranges from Schumann's imaginings of fairy tale images to music by an American viola virtuoso and from British pastoral images to the full romantic riches of Bruch's Romanze.
