The Scottish Chamber Orchestra is without a doubt one of the finest in the world and we are delighted to present a unique and exclusive series of fantastic recitals, given by brilliant soloists from this famous ensemble.
Max Mandel, viola
With piano accompaniment
Schumann: Márchenbilder
Frank Bridge (pieces for viola and piano)
Vaughan Williams: Romance
Bruch: Romanze
Feldman: The Viola in My Life
Rebecca Clarke: Viola Sonata
Capable of spinning the most beautiful romantic musical tunes, it is a rare pleasure to hear the viola as a solo instrument. Max Mandel recently joined the SCO as principal viola, and he has chosen a programme which ranges from Schumann's imaginings of fairy tale images to music by an American viola virtuoso and from British pastoral images to the full romantic riches of Bruch's Romanze.

Bach's music for violin and harpsichord is full of energy and drive which characterise his finest music. Two of his Sonatas are framed by the past and the future represented by a sonata from his great predecessor Arcangelo Corelli and his eldest son William Friedmann.
